Background
The CSIRO is the unsung hero of Australian science and innovation, relentlessly and often thanklessly providing the primary scientific foundations required to discover revolutionary technologies like WiFi. In 2015, with Government cuts to the organization on the horizon, the CSIRO needed to show the Australian public that, although not the sexiest of organizations, they were an important one, feeding many of the technologies they used today and would employ tomorrow.
Challenge
We needed to show Australians the significant, long-term impacts that cuts to the funding of the CSIRO could have on their lives and futures, compared to the immediate attractiveness of cost savings on the federal budget.
Insight
The CSIRO isn’t just investing in the near future—they’re investing in forever.
Solution
A provocative installation that showed the CSIRO is powered by Australians, and in return provides research that will go on to power the country into the future.
The installation was displayed at Customs House in Sydney, and then Federation Square in Melbourne. It generated smiles, energy, and headlines, demonstrating the symbiotic relationship between the organization, its research, the Australian people, and our collective future.
